History’s Biggest Transplant, Sister Gives Her Uterus to Mother’s Infertile Sister

Great hope for infertile women, successful womb transplant operation in UK

A woman’s uterus has been successfully transplanted for the first time in the UK, opening up the possibility of having children for dozens of infertile women every year. The womb donor is the woman’s sister.

Specialist surgeons at the Oxford Transplant Center in the United Kingdom completed a successful uterus transplant operation on a 34-year-old woman in 9 hours.

A British married woman wanted children for many years after marriage but could not become a mother due to some birth complications in the womb.

The woman’s 40-year-old sister is a womb donor, who already had two children of her own.

So far, more than 90 uterus transplants have been performed internationally including Sweden, USA, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, China, Czech Republic, Brazil, Germany, Serbia and India. As a result, about 50 children have been born.

According to Burjani experts, it was a complex surgery, in which the experts of their medical team participated fully. After this successful surgery, women who have been wanting to become mothers for a long time will be encouraged.
