Residents of Chitra district in the Indian state of Jharkhand have alleged that government dealers have cut their free ration by 5 to 10 kg due to the expenses incurred on Chandrayaan Mish-3.
According to media reports, the beneficiaries of free ration in the village contacted the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Sudhir Kumar Das and demanded action against the ration dealers.
The district administration has suspended six ration dealers and sought an explanation from more than 24 dealers, but the ration dealers have denied that they reduced the quota, citing the central government’s expenditure on the Chandrayaan-3 mission. .
Panchayat head Umesh Ram said that ration dealers in his village have deducted the fixed quota of foodgrains, citing the government’s expenditure on the Chandrayaan-3 mission.
Local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravinder Singh claimed that beneficiaries of the scheme initially accepted the cut in ration but became angry when the dealers told them the reason.
Ravinder Singh threatened to protest if the administration showed laxity in taking action against the dealers.
A delegation of the Communist Party of India (CPI) also met a senior district official and demanded action against the ration dealers.
It may be noted that when asked about the alleged irregularities, the dealers denied any cut in the supply of ration.
