NAB amendment in July is doubtful, Chief Justice

The Supreme Court dismissed NAB’s appeal against the order to inform Javed Latif before his arrest

The Supreme Court dismissed NAB’s appeal against the order to inform Muslim League-N leader Javed Latif before his arrest.

A 3-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by the Chief Justice heard the NAB appeal against the order to inform Javed Latif before his arrest.

When the prosecutor presented the position of arrest at the inquiry level after the NAB amendment, Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial remarked that the NAB amendment in July was suspicious.

He said that the NAB amendments are in conflict with the court decisions, how can the servant called to answer the question be put in jail?

The NAB prosecutor said that the decision to inform the accused before arresting him is against the law.

Arrest can also be made during the inquiry after the amendment of the NAB Prosecutor’s Bill dated 3 July 2023. The Chief Justice said that the NAB law was draconian till 2001.

Justice Atharmanullah remarked that the interpretation of the NAB law can only be done in the context of court decisions and the constitution, the order of the High Court is before the July 3 amendment.

The prosecutor said that the NAB amendment has been applied since the past. The Chief Justice remarked that these things should be left alone.

The court rejected NAB’s appeal against the order to inform the accused before arrest.
