A request has been filed by the government to increase the cost of electricity by 10 rupees 32 paise per unit for the people of Karachi. The price hike has been sought for various quarterly adjustments for 2022-23.
The government has prepared to drop more electricity on Karachi’s electricity consumers, and has filed a request with Nepra to increase the price of electricity for K-electric consumers by Rs 10 32 paise per unit.
As per the petition, the increase in electricity prices has been sought in the form of various quarterly adjustments for 2022-23.
In the application, it is requested to recover 47 paisa in quarterly adjustment for October-December 2022, Rs 4.45 per unit under quarterly adjustment for July-September 2022.
Nepra will hear the government’s petition on September 11, and after the hearing, Nepra will decide on the price hike.
A request has been made to keep the rates equal in the country
On the other hand, the spokesperson K Electric has issued a statement that the current request on electricity prices has been made by the Power Division to keep the rates equal in the country.
Spokesperson K Electric said that the government is responsible for determining electricity rates and taxes, individual electricity distribution companies do not have the authority to change electricity rates.
According to the spokesman, the final notification will be issued after the hearing for rate revision and its implementation, and K Electric will be bound to implement it under the country’s laws.
