“Federal government has the authority to put names in ECL list”
The Islamabad High Court has adjourned the hearing till September 19, seeking the records of the cases filed against Shireen Mazari. IG Islamabad paid a fine of 25,000 to the PTI leader.
Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri, while hearing the case against the removal of Shireen Mazari’s name from ECL, remarked that it has been 10 years since these cases were filed. The authority to add names to the list rests with the federal government.
Officials said that names are included in the list on the request of the investigating agency.
Justice Tariq Mehmood said that the list is prepared by the Ministry of Interior and approved by the Federal Government and the Federal Government cannot impose its authority on anyone.
He said that among the rules, the word of the federal government is D, not the word of the passport. With the approval of the federal government, the name of the Ministry of Interior is sent to the FIA.
