Senate: The Prevention of Violent Extremism Bill will be introduced today

ISLAMABAD: The bill to prevent violent extremism will be presented in the Senate today.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah will present the Ending Violent Extremism Bill 2023. Violent extremism refers to the use of force and violence in ideological, religious and political matters, in addition to intimidation or incitement for the sake of sectarianism. , including supporting sectarianism as prohibited by law, providing financial support to an individual or organization involved in violent extremism or inciting violence and hostility.

According to the proposed bill, providing protection and shelter to a scheduled person is violent extremism, praising violent extremism and spreading information about it is also included in violent extremism.

The government can add a person or organization to lists 1 and 2 on violent extremism.

List one will include an organization that is involved in violent extremism, whose leader is violent, this list will also include organizations that have re-emerged with a name change.

According to the Bill, List 2 includes persons who are involved in violent extremism, List 2 includes violent organizations, leaders or those who provide financial support to violent organizations. Will ban.

The bill said that the movement and movement of the leader or individual of a terrorist organization or person in Pakistan will be prohibited, besides the government will investigate the assets of the terrorist organization.

The bill also states that the government will monitor the activities of leaders, officials and members of violent organizations, passports of leaders, officials and members of violent organizations will be confiscated and travel abroad will not be allowed.

According to the text of the bill, the arms license of the leaders, officials and members of the violent organization will be cancelled, assets, properties and bank accounts will be frozen, besides the violent organization will not be allowed to participate in the elections and any A financial institution shall not provide financial support to a leader, member or officer of a violent organization.

The bill also states that the person included in the list can be detained for 90 days to 12 months.

According to the text of the bill, educational institutions will not allow any person to be involved in violent extremism or promote it, besides, no government employee will allow himself or his family members to be involved in violent extremism.

Content of violent extremism will be immediately removed or blocked from social media, punishable offense will be triable by Sessions Court, offense will be non-bailable, cognizable and non-compoundable.

The bill said that the matter will be investigated and inquired by the police or any other agency.

How much punishment and fine will be given to a person guilty of violent extremism?
A person guilty of violent extremism will be punished for 3 to 10 years and a fine of up to 2 million rupees, a person who violates this law will be imprisoned for 1 to 5 years and a fine of up to 1 million rupees.

An organization involved in violent extremism will be fined Rs 50 lakh, the organization will be dissolved, an organization violating the law will be fined up to Rs 20 lakh, the property and assets of the individual or organization will be confiscated upon conviction. will
